Layered Impression - Print, Collage, Stitch
***Note: exact dates may shift by a day or two depending upon flight schedules***
COURSE OVERVIEW
During this course, you will discover the joy of printmaking, fabric collage, and creative hand stitching. We will start by experimenting with Tetrapak printing, an accessible intaglio method using recycled packaging. You'll learn how to engrave your plates by cutting, scoring, and peeling the surface. This exciting technique can produce a variety of beautiful lines, textures, tones, and marks, offering endless possibilities inspired by your own drawings or images.
You will also explore the concepts of repeat and multi-plate printing, focusing on layering colours and textures. Additionally, you will integrate a fabric version of chine collé using fabric overlays. These layered prints will serve as the foundation for tearing, cutting and patching your collaged pieces.
The final stage will be the addition of hand stitching. Using a variety of stitches inspired by Amarjeet's work, which draws from a diverse range of Indian textiles, including kantha, phulkari, and shisha(mirror) embroidery. You will be encouraged to adapt these stitches to fit your own artistic style, using your creative interpretations.
The outcome will be a collection of exciting and imaginative small abstract collage samples that demonstrate a very individual and personal response.
