COURSE OVERVIEW
Absorb and reflect on the evocative landscape of Studio Préniac, observing and capturing your personal impressions of place. You may find views close to the studio, explore the edgeland spaces within Préniac’s boundaries, or venture further, taking a walk into the surrounding landscape. Through close observation and imaginative exploration, you will seek out the essence of the landscape: looking through, down, across, or up close at the details within found forms. Close observation reveals distinctive texture, colour, line, and form, intriguing sources of inspiration for developing textile and mixed media work.
The course begins with creating simple, imaginative sketchbook forms designed to help you explore and connect with the landscape. Through quick, intuitive sketching, mark making, and frottage, you will capture a sense of place through line, texture, colour notes, and collected references. These observations will strengthen your visual language and build a personal resource for developing imaginative textile and mixed media samples.
Experiment with technique and process to create tactile, layered surfaces on wet-strength paper and cloth using printed, painted, and frottage marks. You will then develop these surfaces further with hand-stitched line and texture, using simple stitches to interpret observed marks, found textures, and subtle colour combinations.
Enjoy inspirational, personal teaching with Amanda, who specialises in drawing out each participant’s creative energy through exploration of the textile processes she has developed. Throughout the course, individual and group guidance will support you in developing samples and ideas toward a more resolved personal outcome.
BIOGRAPHY
Amanda combines drawn and painted marks with the tactile qualities of thread, paper, and fabric. The essence of the landscape and natural forms inspires her work. She uses drawing to record fleeting fragments observed and absorbed; she looks at the familiar, sees the extraordinary, and responds to subtle changes in view in the rhythmic motion of walking. The evocative moods of seasonal change and the atmospheric qualities of light and shifting weather experienced while walking are a constant source of inspiration.
The scale of work ranges from individual hangings, wall-mounted panels, and framed textile artworks.
