COURSE OVERVIEW

During this workshop,  you will explore the exciting mark-making qualities of monoprinting and hand stitching on fabric to create a set of small fabric collages.  Monoprinting is a joyous serendipitous process, that allows you to be freer and less controlled in your approach.

The wonderful surrounding landscape will be your source of inspiration, gathering information using simple sketches and notes and encouraged to look closely and in detail. Once back in the studio, these marks, colours, textures and patterns will inform your prints, using reductive, additive and drawn techniques.

These layered fabric prints will be appliquéd to produce a set of small collages. There will be an emphasis on experimenting with colour combinations, scale and proportions to create exciting and bold compositions.

The final stage of creating the collages will be to add hand stitching. Hand stitching is incredibly versatile, adding layers and building depth through additional mark-making and embellishment.

During the week, you will have one-to-one discussions on developing personal pathways and possible future directions you could take. This course is suitable for everyone.
