Wax and Resist
COURSE OVERVIEW
In the first part of this course you will explore a variety of Resist methods on paper and fabric, giving you opportunities to create layered colour, rich textures, playing with pattern and images.
Resist methods prevent dye from reaching all the cloth or paper, you will explore wax batik and other resist methods such as icing sugar paste, flour paste, tie dye.
During the second part of the course you will investigate ways you could use your resist dyed materials; such as surface embroidery, applique, patchwork and quilting.
You will have plenty of inspiration for your work, from the Studio Préniac garden and the local area, it’s flora and fauna, medieval/bastide towns and villages.
Lois’s teaching style mixes group work, demonstrations and individual, personal tuition. You will work at your own pace. By the end of this course you might have a collection of artworks/samples, or you may have worked towards a finished piece, such as a small lap quilt. The workshop is suitable for all abilities.
A list of suggested materials will be sent to students before the course; however dyes and equipment will be provided by Studio Préniac.
