Remove and Replace: Reconstructing the Woven Surface

This workshop will explore ways of manipulating the woven threads of a textile to create line, texture, pattern and even 3D forms.

Students will:

  • Explore ways of manipulating the weave threads of a textile to reconstruct the surface.

  • Remove and replace weave threads to totally reconstruct the textile surface, creating voids and high relief.

  • Use this medium to create personal response to the environment of Preniac.

The course is suitable for beginners, as well as the more experienced.

Master Class - Ladling on the Colour:

Building rich colourful surfaces using paper and fabric colouring techniques.

A course specifically designed for teachers and the more experienced, to inspire and invigorate.

Taking paper and fabric but focusing on the understanding and use of colour, this course will use a number of different dye and print based techniques to investigate colouring processes both on paper and fabric.

The course will focus specially on the use of transparent, translucent and opaque effects combined with simple compositional imagery.

An opportunity to recharge the creative batteries, to explore new territory in a well appointed and spacious setting, with experienced tutoring.

The course is geared towards textile teachers and the more experienced.

This will be Ruth's fourth visit to Studio Preniac.

Using the Found: Text, Paper & Image:

The primary focus of this workshop is to explore text and image as a means of visual communication.

Working on paper and limited fabric scaps this course looks at the use of found materials for rubbings, stencilling, print and the use id text/image/writing both as a design element and as a means for informing work and the development of new ideas.

The course is suitable for beginners, as well as the more experienced.

This will be Cas's second visit to Studio Preniac.

Louise Baldwin:- 14th - 21st September 2013:

Wild Lace - Fragments of Landscape and Life:

Work with mixed media and stitch ( hand and machine) to create evocative 'lacy' networks that reflect the landscape around us.

We will look at colour and mark as well as using a range of techniques from watersoluble fabrics to disintegrating paper, binding over wire frames, layering your unique networks up or creating delicate mixed media 3D forms.

You will be guided through a series of experimental techniques and given plenty of time to develop your own projects on this exciting course.

This course will be fine for all levels of experience as long as you have on open mind.

This will be Louise's second visit to Studio Preniac.
